About The Artist

My name is Zara Bixler, many simply call me Z. I have practiced art one way or another throughout my entire life, encouraged by people close to me to continue forward with it. Predominantly, I work with digital and traditional character illustration, with a particular interest in clean and sharp ink-work and color. I am currently pursuing degrees in both art illustration and psychology, using the psychology degree to inform my art.

For me, my art serves as a visual way to express the inner workings of the human mind and condition. Art, in its most basic form, is just inner thoughts projected outward, no matter how deep or shallow. Dreams and the ‘abnormalities’ in psychology are what inspire me the most. I seek to tell narratives to help people better understand themselves, their loved ones, and their enemies. At my core, I am a storyteller; a jester, and an entertainer. I pry open my skull to tell my stories, but dampen that vulnerability with a fun and healthy dose of humor. I want to create art that makes one question: what does it mean to be a person and what does it mean to have an identity?

Working toward these grandiose performances is no easy task of course. These are the goals of tomorrow, but for today, I work towards being comfortable experimenting and being comfortable with the good and the ugly.
