Project #4: Artist Statement

This project was a huge push out of my comfort zone, as I have never before mixed digital with the physical. As such, I had tremendous difficulty settling on a concept at first, but I do feel the final result was coherent. I didn't like how unstable and delicate my setup was, so in the future I would invest in a sturdier table to hold my projector and take more notes about distances between objects to ensure the highest degree of accuracy. I also wish I had gone larger, but unfortunately I only have two hands & limited carrying capacity(Unlike Ztatic, my persona!).

That said, projection mapping as a medium was not my favorite. I prefer the physical tangibility of an art piece if it is to exist in the real world as opposed to AR technologies. I had a similar reflection for project #2. For the next time I try this technique out, I would rather make a sculpture that on its own is an art piece, then enhance it with a projection; like sprinkles to an already tasty cake.

In the end, I showed my friend photos and videos of this piece that I put her in and she enjoyed it, so that is a win as far as anyone is concerned! It's been a while since I've called her on the phone, so I'm going to do that...

You should too, dear reader. Call someone you love over the holidays.
