I think bugs are really cool, so show me a bug you like.


Or just read about this one. Here's a common beetle you probably have seen in Boulder:

These green beetles use intense pheromones that overwhelm plants so that their leaves drop for the beetles to eat. The pheromones are also used attract other beetles. Pretty thing, right? THIS BASTARD is an invasive species. It's thought that they first hitched a ride in some iris flower bulbs back in 1912 and have just exploded over the west (Source: wikipedia)

The figeater beetle (Cotinis mutabilis), I believe, is the native green beetle for the American west. Very clear difference between the two, but only if you know to spot it. I grew up with these guys, but out here I only see the Japanese beetles.
