The final one! I had difficulty gathering together good objects that I could realistically carry with me to the show, and therefore I had incredible difficulty coming up with a plan of action. It’s that time of year, where I really need a break. We all do! That said, here are the objects of my choosing:

Pretty simple, but it's what I got! These closet drawer boxes break-down into something manageable to carry by hand, and their texture creates a fun tv-static like effect. I tried out several different materials before this, including glass, transparent plastic cartons, cardboard boxes, etc., and didn't like any of them. I probably will close the handle holes up with paper inside, although perhaps I can factor them into my design too. I had my Zine from a previous semester (check out ARTWORK button on home page) in the back of my mind, and despite instruction to stay away from screens, I feel inspired by the old CRT TV aesthetics. On each face of this tower, I will make it look like a different monitor playing a cycle of gifs themed around a retro-futurism and hand-crafted hand gifs (hah!).

In essence, I am making an installation extension of my zine, but with moving parts this time! I want to use the wall to my advantage though to create some more dynamism: the four boxes display the silhouette of a person who then jumps out of the TVs and runs onto the wall and away into oblivion. I am considering adding music and audio to also enhance the visuals, (such as the slapping of bare feet on tile as the person walks away). Stilly stuff. Overall my theme is just randomness, whatever strikes the funny bone, drawing on the visual aesthetics of my previous work. I’m tired and I want to just have some stupid fun for my last project :)

Project #4: Artist Statement
