The author of this article clearly has a concern that previous notions of visual literacy will not be as effective in a digital age of so much visual content. They call for people to spend more time with images that they come across so that they can apply these more complex literacy skills to them, being informed, understanding basic elements of visual design, etc. This is clearly something that is not just limited to visual pieces of media, as there is a great need for critical thinking skills to be taught, and to be retaught.

I find it interesting the emphasis in this article about being able to ‘multitask’ a phrase that is repeated not once but why are in two different lists. multitasking as a concept, the idea of doing two things at once, is a psychologically impossible thing. even computers cannot do this and when a computer is performing multiple actions at once it is switching between the two actions rapidly. The emphasis on multitasking that I see here is just another way in which I feel like the consumer is treated very much the same as the product, the consumer is very much treated like the computer. as such the consumer needs to develop more technical skills to combat the level of technology that gets created. I don't know if we should push all of the responsibility on the consumer to develop these skills though. I think ti would be pretty valuable to decrease the amount of images, since a good number of them might be meaningless. It is our job both as consumers AND producers to filter what we see based on our own visual literacy skills.
